According to ISMA India doesn’t need importing sugar owing to good production in the on-going year 2016-17 at 24 million tonne. It is 3 million tonne less than compare to last year.
About 3 million tonne less than the previous year prompted by the drought like conditions in Maharashtra and Northern Karnataka. ISMA said India need not import sugar for 2 year. As speculations of India becoming the net importer of sugar are rising, According to ISMA there will be an availability of 31 million tonne of sugar in the 2016-17 sugar year beginning in the October. According to ISMA if India consumes the outer limit of 26 million tonne, even the sugar carry over stock on October 1 2007 will be 5 million tonne which is good amount.
